This book is a community effort. We are grateful to everyone who has helped shape it -- through writing, development, and support.

Quality, review, and AI policy

Quality is our first priority. Every chapter passes through three stages before we consider it stable: an initial draft, peer review by domain experts, and continuous revision as the field moves.

Human authorship is what makes that work. Our policy on AI is simple:[1]

  1. Chapters originate with a human idea. The arguments a chapter makes, and its framing, come from its named authors.

  2. LLM outputs are never a source. Claims are backed by citations, and those citations are the source of truth.

  3. Every LLM-assisted passage is reviewed and edited by a human for accuracy and precision before it reaches you.

Footnotes
  1. We were inspired to write this down by Hank Green’s AI policy for his own work, published in August 2026.
